Safeguarding Update November 2024

KCSIE 2024 main updates

  • Where children see, hear, or experience the effects of domestic violence, this is considered abuse.
  • Where “abuse and neglect” was referenced, this has been changed to “abuse, neglect and exploitation”.
  • Attendance is now referenced as “unexplainable and/or persistent absences” – ie much broader.
  • There will be further updates to “Prevent” and also ” children who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or questioning their gender”

True/False?

Whilst very important, attendance isn’t a safeguarding issue.

(false, poor or irregular attendance could be a safeguarding issue!)

CPOMS – recent reminders

  • Don’t forget to tag siblings as a appropriate – you need to add their name but it tells you who they are.
  • If you feel DSLs need to know about a CPOMs, please speak to us. The number of CPOMs is huge and we aren’t reading them 24/7, although it can feel like it!
  • Rule Change: – No initials – use full names. (correct spelling) children and adults.
  • Remember to write it factually – no wonderings – remember Subject Access Request (SAR). Whatever you write may well be read by parents.
