Year 5 – Wednesday 1st April
Good Morning Year 5
Can you believe that it’s April already?! 2020 is flying by so fast. Spring is on it’s way and so lets hope it starts to warm up.
Thanks so much for continuing to share all your hard work, send in pictures and contact us. It helps us (especially Miss T) from getting bored at home.
A massive well done from us for all your work on fractions. We know that this unit of maths can be tricky, but you all showed a great amount of resilience during the day to day tasks and the end of topic assessments. We are extremely proud of you for this and the second test was particularly tricky so don’t be disheartened if you found it difficult. We are hoping to revisit fractions at some point if we have time before the end of the year.
We hope the new styles of maths sessions are working well for you all. We are going to continue to use this for the time being. One thing to remember is that if you need to make some of our own resources to help you out if you need it. Below is a good example of something you could make easily which may be very helpful with decimals. (Thank you Hearns for he great idea)
We have been aware of some issues with TT Rockstars on Monday. Miss T was online and on arena at 3pm and I know some of you were too, but unfortunately we couldn’t play against each other. Due to most children being at home, TT Rockstars has been very busy and so they must be having some technical difficulties.
Keep up the hard work and stay in touch.

Helpful Reminders
Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Today your jobs are Maths, English and French.
- TTRockstars – Miss T (Missy Flowers) will be online at 3pm with her fingers crossed that it works today

Maths
Maths today is going to be in the same format as yesterday.
You can find the video by clicking here
When you do, you will, need to click onto the week 1 section of the web page (picture below)
Then you will find the video for Lesson 2 – Decimals as Fractions (1) (shown below)
We have attached the worksheet for you, but you can also find it on the website. You can also find the answers there too, but we can also email them to you if you prefer or can’t find them.
Extra Challenges
We have attached some challenges to do with decimals for you to complete after you finish the first sheet. These again will be to consolidate your learning, with a few SATs style questions at the end.
English
Today you are going to be finishing your Millions story. So you have the problem section of your story left and then a short ending showing what happens after the problem. Like the last few days, Mrs Poole has written an example which can give you some ideas.
Remember to use:
- Relative clauses
- Parenthesis
- Different sentence types (e.g. the more the more, 3ed sentences and 2 pair sentences)
- Semi-colons to join two clauses
- Semi-colons for a descriptive list
French
The wonderful Miss Stonehouse has made a French video for you. I have attached the link for you. The password is the same as the one we usually use.
If you have already watched this video, then have a go at the wordsearches below to recap some of the basic French vocabulary.
