Year 3 – Thursday 30th April

Good Morning Year 3

Happy Thursday!

How is it Thursday – the week goes so fast when we are working so hard! Thank you again for sharing all your super work with us – we are going to be sharing this with you tomorrow.

So today is going to be a busy day, we look forward to seeing you all in our Zoom catch ups (Your grown up was sent details on Monday). Can you have a piece of work nearby that you have been particularly proud of to show your class friends and teachers. 

Don’t forget it’s Thursday, keep smiling and warm up your hands for 8pm – when we all cheer and clap the NHS for all they are doing at this difficult time. It is also Captain Tom Moore’s 100th Birthday today so don’t forget after to sing Happy Birthday to him. Did you know he has raised £29.376,356 for the NHS! Wow isn’t an achievements!

Year 3 Team 

Guinness World Record Assembly – 10AM – Don’t miss out!

If you fancy trying to break a Guinness World Record then join in with

England’s Biggest Assesmbly. 

Today, Thursday 30th April at 10am.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will deliver a message of hope to school pupils across the country in the first assembly at Oak National Academy. The Archbishop’s address will be streamed through the Times Educational Supplement website www.tes.com  and will then remain available on the Oak National Academy website https://www.thenational.academy. 

Do try and watch it live, and encourage your networks, families and children to watch it live, as you and they may be potentially part of a Guinness World Record!

Maths

Today, we are continuing our work on Fractions using the White Rose Maths Lessons. This will involve watching the video clip and completing the worksheet.  There is an answer sheet to check your work. 

Please complete Summer Term Week 1 Lesson 4 – Ordering Fractions – This lesson builds on your knowledge from yesterday’s work on comparing fractions.  Today you will use bar models to help you order fractions from smallest to largest.

Things to remember

  • Bar models must be the same size when comparing.
  • You can use a fraction wall to help when the numerator and denominator are different numbers.
  • Remember when the denominators the same, the greater the numerator, the greater the fraction e.g. 7/10 is greater than 3/10 because the numerator 7 is greater than 3.
  • When the denominators are the same, the smaller the numerator, the smaller the fraction e.g. 3/8 is less than 5/8 because the numerator 3 is less than 5.
  • When the numerators are the same, the smaller the denominator the greater the fraction e.g. 3/5 is greater than 3/8 because the denominator 5 is less than 8 meaning the whole hasn’t been split into so many pieces.
  • Question 7 is a challenge question. For Dexter’s method will need to make each of the numerators 4. Think what you need to x the numerator by to make 4 and then times the denominator by that too.  You can now order the fractions.  For Alex’s method you will need to make each of the denominators 105 so you will need to work out what you need to times the denominator by to make 105 and times the numerator by that too (you can ask an adult to work through this question with you)

English/ Bookclub 

Reread the story so far before you work through the PowerPoint. Think carefully about how the Varmint is feeling, use a dictionary or thesaurus to find some good vocabulary choices.

Geography

Do you like playing battleships? Well today you will continue to use your knowledge of cardinal points as you make your own battleship game.

Resources you will need: 

  • Two pieces of paper
  • A ruler or a book with a straight edge you can use as a ruler!
  • A pencil
  • 6 small objects from around your house – like a paperclip, a rubber, a pencil etc
  • A large book that can stand up between you and your partner
  • A partner – someone to play your game with!

Year 3 – Friday 1st May

Good Morning Year 3

How is it May already? Well done all! We’ve made it to Friday – well we think it is. Are you finding the days roll into another – we’ve decided there is 3 days of the week ‘Yesterday’ ‘Today’ and ‘Tomorrow’ ????. So we are pleased it is ‘tomorrow’ tomorrow so we can all have a well earned rest! 

We know we say it a lot Year 3 but we wanted to say, we really are so pleased with how well you are all trying with your home learning and doing amazingly. We love seeing your work and hearing from you. It was lovely seeing you yesterday on Zoom – Parents of 3B and 3SB please do email us with any problems with Kahoot so we can sort these before next meeting.

Maths looks a little bit different today because it’s Family Challenge Maths. Have a look at the challenges and work through as many as you can.

Challenges 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the most suitable for year 3 children but why not challenge older brothers and sisters or parents to help you complete more.

English/ Bookclub 

Year 3, we were so proud of you when you wrote your Iron Man poems and that some of these won prizes in competition. Show us your best work! Can you decorate it too? You could write this, use template or do on the computer. Please send us your work after.

Design and Technology 

Today in DT we are looking at bee homes. Look at the information and photos in the PowerPoint and draw a picture of your own bee home design on a piece of paper. Don’t forget to label it with the objects you will use. Make sure you get an adult’s permission before deciding to use anything in your design.

Year 3 – Wednesday 29th April

Bonjour Year 3

Thank you for your hard work! We have loved seeing your French activities from yesterday.

We are really looking forward to our zoom chats tomorrow and to see all your smiling faces. Please email us if you haven’t received the details – this would of been sent through school office email.

Zoom can be used for many things during this time. My children use it for their reading sessions to their Nan – they have now on their forth book! It not only means that they are reading daily, it means their Nan has something to look forward to each day. Maybe you could use this to keep in contact with your other friends and family. We have heard about some children having family quizzes and having virtual sleepovers, this is brilliant!


We are so proud of you all and you are all showing all of our learning behaviours. You are all brilliant superstars being role models for St Mark’s.

Nurturing Nature 2

Year 3 – Tuesday 28th April

Good Morning Year 3

Happy Tuesday, We have been receiving lots of emails with fantastic pieces of work. Your work ethic with all your home learning has made all of your teachers very proud, so keep this up! Keep looking through the pictures of work as these change daily and you might be able to spot yours.

After your lovely sunny weekends, it seems that the sun has gone for a rest for a while. What else could you be doing on the rainy days that are coming up this week? Some baking? Maybe some reading in cosy corner? There is a book link below you could use to hear the story of Kid Normal. Do some more research on bees? Play some games with your family?

Good Morning Year 3

What super work you sent us on Friday of your Bee fact sheets and other things you have been up to – see some below! We hope you had a nice rest over the weekend and were able to enjoy the sunshine outside for your walk or in your garden. Please remember to do as much or as you can whilst your grown-ups are trying to work, we will be proud of you for trying your best in all you do!

Things to remember

  • Remember the denominator (the bottom number) tells you how many equal parts you divide the whole into. So if you are finding 2/3 the 3 will tell you how many sections to split your numberline into.
  • The numberlines need to be the same length when comparing fractions.
  • For question 4 and 5 remember you can multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number to give you an equivalent fraction e.g. An equivalent fraction to 2/5 = 4/10 because if we look at 2/5 the numerator of 2 x 2 = 4 and the denominator 5 x 2 = 10 so this creates the fraction 4/10.

What’s one of the most important things that plants need to grow? That’s right, water!

Today, we are going to investigate just how plants use water to grow healthily. Work through the Power Point and watch the video clip. Afterwards, you can choose which activity you would like to complete.
