It’s been a busy few weeks in Year 1 and it’s been great to see all the wonderful work that the children are completing in school and at home. The children have enjoyed learning about different materials and spotting objects around the classroom and home which use the materials. They are also starting to explore toys as part of their science learning and have explored what materials toys are made of. We’ve had great fun learning about our artist of the moment, Beverley Edge and the children loved making their own robots at home and school. We’ve printed out lots of the home learning robots to brighten our classrooms.

Thank you all for the support you have given the Year 1 team during our first week of Lock-down as we work through teaching in class and remotely.

Over the coming weeks, Year 1 will be offering the following remote live teaching each day.

9.05am – Live maths lesson, taught by one of the year 1 teachers. The link will be found on the Year 1 stream. The link will remain open until 10am, where a member of the team can answer any questions to support your child with their learning.

10.45am – Live English lesson, taught by one of the year 1 teachers. The link will be found on the Year 1 stream. The link will remain open until 11.30am, where a member of the team can answer any questions to support your child with their learning.

1pm – Live phonics and story time (Fridays this will be phonics and star learners) with your child’s class teacher. The link will be found on your own class (1C/1J/1P) stream.

We understand that working from home, multiple children, sharing of resources, accessing remote learning etc. is not always easy so please just try your best. Please remember to contact us on year1@stmarksce.org.uk if you have any queries. We look forward to seeing all the children this week in our meets and seeing all their fabulous work you send in.

We have had requests for possible resources to help with the children’s learning at home from parents/carers.

If you would like to, there will be an opportunity for you to collect …

• an exercise book for maths
• an exercise book for English
• a whiteboard and pen
• a sound mat,
• a number line
• a part-whole model/tens frame

 Please only take one of each for your child.

These will be available outside your child’s classroom between 3.30-4pm tomorrow (Friday 8th January). Please use the KS1 gate for coming into and leaving school, using the one-way system as usual. Please ensure you wear your masks and adhere to social distancing as usual.

Year 1 Team

Thank you for your support and patience as we set up home learning for the children. All the work for the children will be on Google Classrooms in their own classroom. We will put the work on Google Classroom the night before to allow you time to be organised. We appreciate how busy everyone is, so hopefully this will help. Please do email year1@stmarksce.org.uk if you have any questions. There will be a variety of class meets which would be great if your child can attend, but we understand if work commitments do not allow this. The Google meet links will appear just before each session in the stream. We will be taking a register in the first session each day. 

This will be the plan in Year 1 for live learning with your child’s class teacher from tomorrow. As you can see the timetable builds up as we become used to live teaching! 

Each session will involve the following:

9.05am: Register, welcome and a Maths session (10-15mins), teaching key skills for that day’s Maths learning.

10.45am: English lesson (10-15mins) teaching the key skills for today’s learning.

1pm: Phonics session (10-15mins) followed by an explanation of the topic learning.

Please could your child make sure they have paper and pencil for each live teaching session. Any other resources they may need, we will post on the Google Classroom page with the lesson.

Please do your very best to ensure the work is completed as this is the children’s education currently and we need to continue working as well as we were in school. All completed work or photos should be submitted back to Google Classroom so the teachers can see. If you need any resources (e.g. paper, pencils etc.), a computer or guidance please do ask and we will do our best to accommodate. It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Year 1 and we have been enjoying the Christmas spirit in our learning. We had great fun exploring clay and used our skills to make our polar animal clay tiles. I’m sure you agree they look marvellous! We have also enjoyed lots of other Christmas crafts.

The Year 1 team would like to thank you all for your support with your children’s learning this term and we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May you all have a wonderful time with your families and we will see you all in 2021!
