Good Morning Year 5
We hope you have had a fantastic weekend and that you have managed to find lots of things to keep you entertained, as well as finding some time to go outside and get some fresh air.
We are all missing you and missing being in class, but it has been lovely to see some of your hard work, hearing about your days and chatting to you on the year 5 email. Please keep sending emails to year5@stmarksce.org.uk .
We know that some of you will be disappointed that we haven’t been able to do our European cooking and we are also very upset about this. Instead, we have set you a DT task today, linked to what we have been doing, but without the cooking aspect as we know that ingredients at the moment may be hard to come by. But we would really love to see what you come up with, so please do send in a photo of your end result.
We have come across a fantastic resource which we would like to share with you. The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, is running some live, free online fitness sessions for children at 9am Monday-Friday this week on Youtube. So if you would like 30 minutes of exercise in the morning, then maybe go to Youtube and search ‘The Body Coach TV’ and join in. We hope you enjoy.
In this tough time, remember to stay positive, smile, be helpful and be the wonderful children we know you to be.

Helpful Reminders
Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We will be responding between 9am and 4.30pm. We look forward to hearing from you.
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Daily Activities
Today’s activities include Maths, English and DT, more information of each below. There are two videos to help you with today’s learning, which is lower down on this page, and you will need to use the same password as the last few days to access them. Also remember to continue with the ongoing tasks, which are listed below
- TTRockstars – You have been set the challenge of completing 3 garage sets before you will be able to play freely. Miss Thomas will be online again at 3pm, so she hopes to see as many of you in the arena as possible. Thank you to those children who joined her on Friday, she has realised she really needs to work on her speed as she keeps getting beaten!! Remember to look out for Missy Flowers (that’s Miss T).
- Reading – Read for at least 20 mins.
- Spellings – Today there is a new set of spellings (attached below), remember to practise these daily.
Maths
Maths today will be continuing with fractions, but with something completely new – multiplying fractions by a whole number. We will be doing this for the next few days. Today will be focusing on how to do this using repeated addition (and you are very good at adding fractions). Miss Thomas has created a video to help you which shows the task as well as a mini introduction alongside a PowerPoint, so hopefully this will be helpful for you. Remember, if you would like answers, Miss T has them so email in to year5@stmarksce.org.uk and she will send them over.
English
Today you are going to be listening to one of the final chapters of Millions. Some of you may have noticed that the video of Mrs Poole reading Chapter 18 cut out before the end, which we apologise for, (silly computer errors). Therefore we have included in the English PowerPoint the last few pages which were cut out so please read those. Then there is a video (which we have checked) for Chapter 19, again with Mrs Poole reading them to you. Once you have done this, you then have a writing task, which again should only take you 15-20 minutes.
D.T.
Today we are challenging you create a menu from one European country. Your menu needs to contain some starters, mains and desserts from the country you choose. Once you have chosen a country, you need to find some traditional food from that country and create a menu with what you find. Once you researched, create a decorative menu with some details about the different foods.
We have created an example menu from England, but we would like you to choose a European country other than England. We are happy for you to make the menu by hand or electronically, whichever you’d prefer. When you have finished, please do send us a copy, we would LOVE to see what you have designed.
