I hope that you are all well and have been enjoying some of the Easter activities that we have provided for you. It is strange not seeing you and I am looking forward to organising our Zoom meet up after the Easter holidays. It has been a strange few weeks and meeting up with people through the power of video link seems to have become the new normal – I have met up with friends and even been to my choir through Zoom!
I have enjoyed going out for walks around Winchester and along the river; it has been so lovely to see all of the wildlife. I saw a pair of goldfinches on one of my walks, I think they are my favourite bird, you often see them in pairs. I have also been reading lots of books, it is such a good way to relax but I am always sad when the story comes to an end.
Today is Maundy Thursday which marks the beginning of the Easter weekend. Maundy Thursday marks the day that Jesus and his disciples met for the Last Supper, when Jesus washed his disciple’s feet and then broke bread and shared the wine in the first act of Holy Communion.
This Easter weekend will be a strange one, very different to any other Easter weekend. It might be a good opportunity to share the Easter story as a family, this is an interesting retelling using a single sheet of paper. The Easter Story
I heard about people locally to me creating their own Easter egg hunt, by decorating a picture of an egg and putting it in their windows, rather like the rainbows and teddy bears we are seeing so many of, I am making crochet Easter egg bunting to put up in my window.
Hello Year 3, I hope you are having a lovely Easter break and are managing to get out in the sunshine as much as you can. I have enjoyed being able to spend time in the garden and taking my girls out on their bikes or scooters once a day.
On Monday we posted some ideas of activities you might enjoy doing over the holidays. I have been having a go too. Yesterday I followed Mrs Boyle’s video to make a bookmark, as I need a bookmark for the new book I am reading. It’s called the Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell and I am reading it because my daughter read it and was so excited talking to me about it, it made me want to read it too. Have you been reading any good books? Maybe you could email in and tell us if you had read anything exciting. We’d love to hear!
Here is my chick bookmark. I did have to pause the video a few times to check I was folding it correctly. I’m quite pleased with it!
Below I have posted a video where I am asking you 3 Easter riddles. Can you solve them? Email us the answers if you can.
I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend, We will be back with you on Tuesday Mrs Spiers

Special Challenge! We are challenging you to be a silly reader! Can you take a picture of yourself reading in a silly place in your house or garden. For example: under the stairs, behind the sofa, with a pet, on a windowsill or anything else you think is a super silly place to read. When you have your picture, send it to us by emailing year1@stmarksce.org.uk and we will choose the silliest one! If your grown-ups are happy for your picture to go on the website, we will post the winner on Friday 17th April.
We have an exciting story for you today. Miss Jamieson would like to read Tiddler to you! You can find this in the video resources section of this post along with other videos read by Year 1 teachers. The password is the same as previously.

You can access our general resources to support your child at home here: Y1 General Resources
Please do not feel like you have to complete all of the activities provided in one day. We have given a variety so that there are options for you to choose what works best for you at home.
Read Write Inc are kindly doing live daily phonics sessions, although they may have stopped this over the Easter holidays. They are at certain times depending on which sounds you would like to practise. We suggest either Set 2 or Set 3 sounds. Find the link here: RWI Phonics
If you are running out of reading material, you can try Oxford Owl.You need to make a free parent account but it gives to access to some Oxford Reading Tree e-books that we use at school. Make sure you are reading a book that is at your child’s band. If they are finding this band too easy, you could try a songbird book from the band above.
Alternatively, you can find free Big Cat ebooks by following the steps linked here: Big Cat ebooks.
Optional Ongoing Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.

We hope you are having a lovely Easter break and are looking forward to the Easter weekend. We will not be posting this weekend, but you will hear from us again on Tuesday. In the meantime, we’d love to hear what you have been doing so please do keep posting on Tapestry. I wonder how many Rainbow Points you have so far? We love to give them out when we see children showing our Learning Behaviours and our Heart Smart High Fives.
If you would like to reflect on the Christian meaning of Easter we have selected a few stories, videos and worship songs that you might want to share together.
We hope you all have a wonderful Easter Weekend, and thank you again for everything you are doing, we are so proud of each and every one of you.
Set up a garden obstacle course and record yourself completing it.
Create a photo storybook. For example – The adventures of your favourite Teddy – take photos of your cuddly toy and then get an adult to video you telling your story or perform it to an audience.
Draw a picture and send it to someone to make them smile.
Make some animals out of playdough.
Video call a member of your famliy and read them a story.
Try a Numberblocks make and play activity. Click to open.
A “Keyword” Easter hunt in the garden. Click on the sheet below to download and print (alternatively make your own or make your own keyword hunt: write out pairs of keywords – keep one set, hide one set and when you find a word match it to the word in your set.)
A “Number” Easter hunt in the garden – Download and print the sheet below, cut each egg in half and hide all the parts. Once the children have found the egg parts they have to combine the correct ones to make a total of 10 e.g. 8 and 2, 7 and 3 etc
Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.
You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.
We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Independence
The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.
However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.
Enjoy your Easter Weekend, we’ll be back on Tuesday.
