I came across this poster from National Online Safety about supporting Children’s Mental Health. It gives some helpful conversation starters and certainly at this time, looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health.

Good Morning Parrots, Puffins and Penguins!
Did you have fun yesterday taking part in the Number 12 Olympics? We loved seeing pictures of you trying out lots of different moves and creating your own circuits in the garden!
We were so impressed with the hot air balloons you made on Monday, we thought you’d like to see some of the wonderful creations in the gallery below!
Today’s activities are mostly based on ‘Room on the broom’ and we hope you have lots of fun creating potions and making magic wands. Careful not to cast any spells on your family!

Independence
The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.
However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.

English – Room on the broom
Today’s story is about a rather unusual way of travelling! I wonder how comfortable it is to travel on a broomstick? How many can travel at once? Let’s find out as we watch Mrs Rushton reading ‘Room on the broom’.
What was your favourite part of the story? Can you tell your grown up where the witch flew on her adventure? How did the animals save the witch?
At the end of the story the witch made a potion to create a brand new broom. The frog found a lily, the cat found a cone, the bird found a twig and the dog found a bone. They threw them all in and the witch stirred them well, and while she was stirring she muttered a spell “Iggety, Ziggety, zaggety, ZOOM!”
What would you include in a magic potion to make a new broom? Talk to your grown up about what you would put into your cauldron, then write your ideas down.

Maths – Numberblock 12
Let’s see what you remember about number 12! Is it more or less than 10? Is it a square or rectangular number?
Watch Numberblock 12 again to remind you of some of the facts click here to view. Is 12 an odd or even number? The episode doesn’t tell us. How can you check?
Today’s main activity is to practise making arrays of 12. An array is an arrangement of a number in columns and rows.
Use these pictures to practise making each arrangement of 12 in an array and explain what you’ve made.
Getting crafty – wand and potion making!
Now you have made up your own magic potion, you will need a magic wand to wave while you cast your spell, just like the witch in the story.
Can you make your own magic wand? You could use a real stick that you find in your garden or while you are out for a walk, or you could make one using card/paper. We can’t wait to see how creative you can be!
If you don’t fancy making your own wand, you could design a wand using this template, or you could ask a grown up to draw a wand for you to colour. Design your own magic wand template
If you fancy a scientific experiment and would like to make your own bubbling potion, have a go at this recipe with a grown up! Bubbling potion experiment
Or you could create your own potion using objects from the garden and ingredients from the kitchen (check with a grown up first!) Have fun!

Year 6 – Wednesday 22nd April
Good Morning Our Lovely Year 6 Children!
How can it be Wednesday already?! It’s going to be a good one though because our Zoom meetings are happening today and we are really excited! We cannot wait to see your happy faces soon. Don’t forget to have your pieces of paper ready for our quiz. You need to write ‘True’ on one side and ‘False’ on the other. If you’ve run out of paper, don’t worry – just use thumbs up or down instead. :D Fingers crossed for no technical issues! It might be a good idea to test Zoom to make sure it is working before we meet. Remember that you must have permission to be in the Zoom Room with us so we either need an email confirmation from your parents or they must be in the background at the beginning of the call :).
Miss Pettitt is still making the most of the sunshine! She’s been on lots of lovely walks and bike rides and has even managed to achieve her fastest 5k jog yet! She’s actually becoming quite competitive with herself – oh dear! But she is really proud of herself :) In the evenings, she’s been enjoying watching the most beautiful sunsets from her window. Look at this one:

Jae Malone, the author of ‘Silver Linings’ unfortunately could not visit us last month because of the Covid situation. However, she is incredibly keen to make sure we keep our imaginations fired and let our love of writing stories grow. Therefore, she has sent some fun ideas on how to create short stories. With these writing prompts you may be able to come up with a brand new story idea that no one else has ever thought of. You don’t have to write stories down, you may picture them in your mind or be a storyteller to members of your family.

As well as these fun story creating ideas, she has set us an exciting challenge. If you would like to win a signed set of Jae Malone’s trilogy, then why not enter her creative writing competition?
All you have to do is send your completed Indiana story from last term. If you have already sent us uploaded photos of your completed story or sent it as a Word document, then all you have to do is ask us to submit it to Jae’s competition. If you didn’t send us your completed story, you have until 4th May to complete your story and send it to us. Remember to use the year6@stmarksce.org.uk address for your entries.

Did you enjoy designing a new robot yesterday? If you thought that was good, today it gets even better! You now get the chance to begin advertising your new invention. We only want you to focus on the introduction today, so take it slowly and use the ideas on the PowerPoint to help you. Here are two example advertisements to help you: Two good examples
The blue arrows show you where we would like you to get up to today, but it is worth reading each one through as a whole so you can a feel for this style of writing. Think of a snappy opening and some rhetorical questions that will really get your audience thinking – we cannot wait to see photographs!
Music
You may fancy joining in with some music today. There is a Powerpoint below with some steps to learn a song. Listen to the song first and then learn the different parts. You can click on the sound buttons in the Powerpoint or click on the sound files below. Maybe if you’re feeling brave you might like to perform it to someone in your family to brighten up their day!

Good Morning Year 5!
Wow midway through the first week back after the Easter Holidays already! We hope that you are all well and that you are all staying positive and busy.
There were some amazing things in the sky last night, did anyone manage to see it? Mira sent in an amazing picture of an extremely bight planet that she saw last night. Have another look tonight and see what you can see.
A massive thank you to those children who have sent in their work for us to look at over the last 2 days. We have been really impressed by everything we have seen so far – please keep sending in your work to year5@stmarksce.org.uk . Below is another selection of work. Today you are going to be looking at one Poem in the Lost Words book – name ‘Conker’. On the PowerPoint you will read the poem and then your job will be to answer the questions on the Word document below. Think carefully and answer in full sentences.
