Year 1 are ‘On the Move!’
Year 1 have had a great start to Spring 2. The children are loving their new topic, ‘On the Move’ and thoroughly enjoyed themselves on our school trip to Milestones. The children loved exploring the historic vehicles and getting up close to the Thornycroft vehicles. Over the last week, the children have recounted their trip experiences and have written some wonderful recounts of the day. One of their highlights was sitting on the 1940s bus and listening to the story, ‘The Naughty Bus’.
We also had a wonderful time on Friday, celebrating World Book Day. The children’s costumes were fabulous and it was great seeing so many different characters across the year group. The children loved learning about different stories and also creating artwork for a door in their classroom. Can you guess what books the children learnt about from these photos?
Thank you for your continued support.

Year 5 – Welcome to Spring 2!
This half term, Year 5 will be learning all about Europe – our Geography driver for the next 6 weeks. It’s another super jam-packed half term with lots to squeeze in before Easter.
Please find our Topic Web and Knowledge Organiser attached. Our Topic Web gives you an insight into what we are covering in each of our subjects this half term – everything from English, to Maths, to Art and everything in between. Our Knowledge Organiser gives you lots of facts about La Plagne (an area in France) and Basingstoke, as we will be comparing these over the next 6 weeks.
We can’t wait to share the children’s learning with you soon,
The Year 5 Team

Year 5 Learning Update – Spring 1
What an amazing half term! The Year 5 children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Vikings and have shown themselves to be expert historians! Through their history learning, they have challenged stereotypes and learned about where these stereotypes originally came from and also gained lots of knowledge about the Vikings themselves. We used the Vikings to inspire lots of our other learning too – Viking stories in English, Viking chanting in Music, making Viking doodlers in D&T to write Viking runes… it’s been amazing. We also finished off the topic with the most incredible trip to Ufton Court. The children engaged in battle skills (complete with face paint), learned Viking skills (weaving, wall building and spark making) and went on a Viking boat to raid other countries too. It was a fun packed, informative day and the children shone so brightly.
We also wanted to congratulate children on amazing Mad Hair Day. The children raised over £100 for St Michael’s Hospice and are truly all showing themselves to be Agents of Change!

Year 3 – Spring Update
What a busy half term we have just had. The children fully immersed themselves into our Geography unit, learning all about Southampton. Within D&T they created some super passports using their sewing skills to create a front cover. They impressed their teachers with super cross stitch, maybe you need something fixed? 😂.
Today we started our new project, What’s Inside. The children watch a dance video this morning of some funny skeletons that they happened to know very well, their teachers made them laugh! We then started our Science unit where the children investigated making the tallest structure with just 10 pieces of paper and 1mtr of masking tape. Their structures had to hold the weight of a tennis ball. The children learnt a lot from this investigation about making the base solid.
This morning we also completed our agents for change activity and delivered 45 plants to local neighbours doorsteps. Here is the poem we included with the plant:
We have a special gift that we’d like
to give you from us all.
We are agents of change and
no act of kindness is too small.
It’s our little gift to you,
to leave this tiny flower.
It needs a little bit of sun and
maybe a rain shower.
We hope you like it and it grows
well every day.
Please accept it with our love
and we’ll be on our way.

We were very excited to have received the following emails this afternoon:
Dear Lovely Children of Year 3,
I live just around the corner from the school and happened to pop out this morning. When I returned home I was greeted by this beautiful flower pot with an even more beautiful message. It definitely did put a lovely big smile on my face and made my day
Thank you so much I feel very grateful to have received this lovely gift.
Lots of love
