A note from Mr Applegate
For those in the KS2 evening performances next week, please arrive at school at 6:10pm. Thank you.
So many highlights from this week, including:
- Year R celebrating Christmas, and recovering after the nativities of last week.
- Year 1 & 2 Prickly Hay performance – you were amazing!
- Year 3 visiting St Mark’s Church for a nativity experience.
- D&T in Years 4 & 5 – designers and engineers already!
- Year 6 cooking Woolton Pies and becoming Evacuees
- Many of our KS2 choir visiting Dashwood Manor to sing to the residents.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, the KS1 gate area will look different. We’re having work done to install water and electricity to the farm and forest school areas. Thank you to Nick Beere and Dave Downer who are generously giving their time and resources, as well as Mrs Barbour and Mr Calver for their efforts. We are so grateful.
One more week to go! Don’t forget INSET day on Tuesday 2nd Jan – children return Wednesday 3rd Jan.
Have a great weekend, Mr Applegate :)
Farewell Mrs Stone
5SP were informed this week that our lovely Mrs Stone will be finishing at St Mark’s this term. She’s been incredible at St Mark’s, and we will miss her. We wish her all the best in the future, and I’m sure she’ll come back and say hello!
Pupil Safety First
We’re at over 500 signatures. Can we get to 800?! Please sign our petition here! We’ll be presenting this to the council really soon!
Tesco Funding – Vote for St Mark’s
From Mid January to March, all of the Tescos in Basingstoke will have tokens available to ‘vote’ for a project – including our very own St Mark’s Farm and Forest School projects. This could be worth up to £10,000!
If you make a purchase in Tesco, don’t forget to vote for us by putting the token in the right box. And perhaps share this with your family and friends!

⭐ Attendance Updates ⭐
Our target over the year is 97%. Last year’s attendance was 95.8% – above national levels, but we’d like it to be much higher.
Our current attendance percentage is 96.6%. Oh no :(

Music of the Week
Troika by Prokofiev
This piece was written by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev in 1933 for a film called Lieutenant Kijé.
‘Troika’ refers to the traditional Russian three-horse sled of the same name, and the music depicts a fast sleigh-ride.
