30th April Newsletter – Parents’ Evenings, Car Wash Update, Vacancies, and more

What a great week!

We’re so proud of the children – they continue to work hard and enjoy themselves! We have been thinking about forgiveness this week. In particular, how it makes us feel when we forgive others who may have wronged us. Letting go of the anger, the hurt, the frustation has such a positive effect on how we feel. It can take courage to forgive and to take the first step, but we want to encourage the children not to hold on to anything! “Don’t Rub It In, Rub It Out!”

Thank you to everyone who was able to support the car wash last Satuday. It raised an amazing £586.71. Just amazing!

Breakfast Club Vacancy

We are recruiting ! We are looking for a reliable, trustworthy and caring person to work in our thriving Breakfast Club. You will assist in providing a welcoming, stimulating and positive start to the day for our children. You will also help with setting up, clearing away and preparation of food (cereal & toast). Hours are 7.45am to 8.45am Monday to Friday, term time only with an hourly rate of £9.25 per hour. Under normal circumstances, we would welcome you to visit us to meet some of the children and see for yourselves what we can offer each other. Dandelions Cleaning Vacancy

Dandelions Community Preschool are looking for a part time cleaner to provide the setting with a deep clean once per month. The deep clean would ideally take place every 1st Friday of the month, the hours would be 16.30-18.30 or 18.30-20.30. This role would be paid by the hour, rate of pay to be discussed during the interview. Covid Reminders

  • Use the email covid@stmarksce.org.uk if you have questions or need to report symptoms or a positive case.
  • Please keep us updated – for example, of test results.
  • Read this letter from Public Health England about symptoms and testing.
  • NHS Symptoms Check
  • If a child or parent is at home because of symptoms, please keep the siblings off too. IE the whole household needs to isolate, and the person with symptoms needs to get a test.
  • We are moving online with homework, spellings and Google Classrooms. If you need help with technology, please do let us know by emailing the office.
  • If a child is off school but able to work, then Google Classroom work is available – and it should be completed. Teachers spend a lot of time making sure this work is available so no-one misses out!

Year 5 Request for Art

Art Lessons

Starting from this week, the Year 5 art lessons are going to involve using lots of paint and different painting skills – including paint splattering! We have very few aprons in school and due to COVID restrictions and the need to quarantine them, we cannot guarantee that we can always use the ones which we do have. 

By Friday, please can every child in Year 5 bring a named apron into school to leave in the classroom? It could be:

  • an oversized adult shirt, no longer needed
  • an oversized adult t-shirt, no longer needed
  • an actual painting apron 

We are looking forward to having some fun and making some mess in Art, but also need to make sure the children’s uniforms are protected.

Rev May

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are sorry to let you know that Rev May will be moving on from Immanuel Church in June. This is because the Diocese are looking to create a single, larger parish – the official announcement is below.

This is obviously very sad news for Rev May and for us as a school and community. Despite having only been here since July 2019, she got stuck in right away, and quickly became a part of us and our school community. It’s hard to imagine a time without her! Rev May is on the school gate twice a week, regularly leads us in worship across the school, is an active governor, and is a support and blessing to our school – and not just in times of need. Pre-covid, Rev May helped us in Prayer Weeks, leading worships and lessons, and being involved in different programmes the school was running or due to run. Through Rev May, we benefitted from the help of Imamnuel Church too, continuing our close links with the church. Rev May was a huge support when Mrs Hygate and Mr Carter passed away last year, too. I know you join me in thanking her for all that she has given to us as a school and community, and in wishing her all the best as she moves to her new role. Foruntately Rev May doesn’t finish until the end of June, so let’s make the most of her time with us!

We do look forward to getting to know Revd Nicola Such, who some of you may already know from St Mark’s, Kempshot. Like Rev May, she shares a heart for the community, and is keen to work alongside us as a school.

Official Announcement: Over the coming months, the Diocese of Winchester are looking to create a new single parish that unites Immanuel Church, Hatch Warren and Beggarwood and St Mark’s in Kempshott, with Revd Nicola Such (currently Vicar at St Mark’s Church) as the Vicar. We hope that together we can find a new way forward that continues to build on the close relationship that Immanuel Church has with St Mark’s School. Nicola looks forward to popping in to say hello to children and staff at some point this term, when restrictions allow. The Reverend May Barker has been offered and has accepted the post of Half Time (0.5) Incumbent of the United Benefice of St Stephen’s North Mundham and St Leodegar’s Hunston in the Diocese of Chichester.
