This week the children enjoyed learning about Igneous and Sedimentary rocks, they had the opportunity to make their own rocks using milk and white chocolate. Hopefully the children can tell you the difference between the two rocks and how they are formed. They could always use their knowledge organiser to remind themselves.
On Friday the children brought home our topic grid and knowledge organiser (also attached below) linked to their learning. The knowledge organiser has all the key learning and vocabulary we will be using with your children this half term. We hope that you will share these with your child to open up the opportunity to discuss their learning and also widen their experiences through some of the home learning opportunities we have suggested. The knowledge organiser will help us work towards answering our big question ‘Is all change needed?’.
Few other reminders:
Year 3 Team
Our ‘Connections’ topic is well underway in Year 5 and the children have already been practising lots of Space facts and discussing many concepts.
Attached are our Topic Web (half term overview) and Knowledge Organiser – both of which are also coming home in paper copies this afternoon. Please stick the Knowledge Organiser somewhere prominent and practise these key facts at home. Practise makes permanent and we would love for these facts to be permanently embedded into the children’s long term memory.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
The Year 5 Team
What a great start we have all had in Year 1 and we are looking forward to getting to know your children over the coming year. The children are settling into all their new routines and have started our new project, ‘Sensational Senses’ brilliantly. We have started to explore our senses through a senses discovery afternoon last week and are beginning to use our senses to help write some poetry this week. There was great excitement on Friday when caterpillars joined our classrooms. We will be watching them as they grow and develop into butterflies over the coming weeks.
In maths, we are exploring number and practicing our counting skills by finding one more and one less. We look forward to seeing many of you at our curriculum evening or morning later this week.
PE days are Monday and Wednesday this term. The children will be taking part in both indoor and outdoor PE sessions, so please make sure they have suitable clothing for both and that all items are named clearly.
Thank you
Year 1 Team (Mrs Carter, Miss Jamieson, Miss Hall)
