Year 3 – Summer 1 Update

What a busy half term we have had! The children have thoroughly enjoyed our Geography based project ‘Nurturing Nature’. We started this project with a mystery bag from ‘Edward’, where we discovered a plant and all the nutrients needed to keep it healthy. We then heard about Edward’s story ‘The Last Tree in the City’ and how he managed to change a concrete city into a beautiful colourful city, full of flowers and plants.

Within this project they have learnt lots about keys for maps, reading maps, looking at physical and natural objects and (even in a little rain for 3T and 3SB) they loved our field work task around Beggarwood Park. We were very proud of how they represented the school during this walk too. The conversations about the changes that have taken place over the last few years and changes that are still happening were brilliant.

In Science, the children carried out many investigations where we answered the following key questions:

  • What affect do nutrients have on a plant?
  • Which root structure will absorb the largest quantity of water?
  • What happens to wilting cress when it is put in water?
  • What happens if we deprive a leaf or plant of light?
  • What happens to the leaves of plants when their roots are placed in dye?
  • What do the parts of a flower do?

We learnt lots from all these investigations and completed our own investigation booklets.

In our final week of this term we completed a D&T castle unit, where the Queen tasked us with planning, designing and making a castle for her special Jubilee celebrations. Take a look below at our super work.

Ending this term with our Jubilee party, which was fantastic! Making Historic memories that will hopefully stay with your children forever! Don’t forget your Grow a 70p for the Jubilee!
