At St Mark’s we use the ‘Zones of Regulation’ to help children try to understand their emotions. By helping children to identify their emotions, we can then try to help them to manage them.
During this lockdown I felt it was important to share this again with you all. Here is some helpful information regarding the ‘Zones of Regulation’.

Good morning everyone
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and managed to enjoy the snow (socially distanced of course). I have been using this website a lot recently as it has some helpful advice about a range of concerns parents and carers may have about their children. There are useful tips, information and helpline numbers.

For the children in school (apologies for the bulk message!):

Starting this week, we are introducing staff coivd testing. This is a home test done twice a week, and aims to idenitfy those who may be asymptomatic. It’s a government scheme that we are taking part in.
Please be aware that this may mean bubbles may close! By definition, we don’t know if an asymptomatic adult has the virus, but the test will tell us. Staff will do the tests on Mondays and Thursday each week, early evening. This gives time for accurate test results, as well as for us and your familiy to make plans in case of a positive test.
If a staff member tests positive:
FIngers crossed we won’t need to do any of this, and we’ve been very fortunate so far. We continue to implement robust measures at school to reduce risks and keep everyone as safe as we can.
I know you’ll join me in thanking our staff for undertaking this additional task, amongst all extra aspects they are managing at this time.

For every book purchased through the site, FOSM will get 10% of the price.
We have put together a wide selection of titles from activity books and books to save the planet, through to books to boost confidence as well as books being shared in school. There are even some books for grown-ups on the site.
If you would like to share any books that you and your family have enjoyed we’d be delighted to add them to the shop. If there is a book you’d like to purchase, but its not listed in the bookshop yet, then you can drop us a line and we will make sure it’s added.
The FOSM Bookshop is hosted on Bookshop.org a new platform that supports independent booksellers who are really struggling currently. Bookshop.org was set up to provide a convenient and affordable alternative to buying through Amazon. There is a small delivery charge on orders but all books are sold at a discount on rrp. Hours of work are 3.30pm to 6.30pm Monday to Friday with an hourly rate of £9.25 per hour.

Do you have a laptop lying around, which we can use to support children at home? Doesn’t need to be new or quick. We blitz it, and install all the software necessary. That way a child who doesn’t have access to a laptop for home learning can really benefit. If you can help, please email the office.
We’ve moved our absence request form online. This is for absence requests such as holidays, weddings, funeral, special events, and more. You don’t need to use this form for sickness or self-isolation (but please email/phone the office if they are unwell).

Two weeks in and were developing a rhythm of a new way of doing school. Thank you for your messages of encouagement as the staff adapt to ‘going live’. The feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive.
Remember, school isnt closed, but rather has moved online with some children doing that online learning from school. It’s key that children engage in the learning at home, and again 99% are. Home learning is of course balanced with managing your family circusmtances and we do understand the challenges. We’ll be reaching out to the small minority this week who seem to be struggling in some way with completing work to see how we can help.

In Google Meet, you can use the Pin icon to pin that person’s video to the screen. We recommend ‘pinning’ the teacher. This stops the video jumping around to whoever else might be speaking, and focuses your child on the teacher.
