Welcome to Year 1
What a great start to Year 1! The children have all settled in well and are adjusting to all the new routines of Year 1. They have enjoyed exploring our new classrooms and completing our daily challenges through discovery. In maths this week, we have been thinking about our numbers within 10 and exploring different ways of making them. We have also been enjoying our writing by thinking about what we are ‘thankful’ for.
This term we will be thinking about ‘Sensational Senses’, where we will be learning about our senses and parts of the body. We will also be exploring colour through our art and painting. Further details about our project can be found in the attached knowledge organiser and topic web.
Reading Books:
- Your children should already have brought home a reading book, which will be changed each week when they read with an adult in class. This book is linked to a colour band.
- Today they will bring home a library book to share with you. Please make sure this is in school every Friday so they can change it.
- Next week, they will be given a Read Write Inc reading book linked to their phonics group, which they will have from Monday to Friday.
- Please make sure your child’s reading books are in school everyday so that they can be read with.
We have all really enjoyed our first week with your children and we look forward to the year ahead with them. Please do not hesitate to contact the team with any concerns or questions using the year group email: year1@stmarksce.org.uk
