Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Ongoing Daily Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games. Mrs Chapman will be online at 11am today in the Year 6 Arena area. Her TT Rockstar name is Zander Madden and will play games in the Wembley Stadium area.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets – your new weekly sheet will be uploaded each Monday. Please notice that number 9 on the main spelling sheet has changed by having the prefix ‘dis’ added as the original sheet had the word ‘honest’ appear twice.

Your weekly success in seven for this week: Success in Seven week 6
Daily physical activity of some sort – it’s great to hear so many of you are getting energetic with Joe each morning. This is a great way to stay fit and wake up your brain.

Answers to Tuesday’s success in seven can be downloaded here: Year 6 Tuesday’s Success in 7 answers
For your maths learning today, as well as completing Monday’s success in seven, we also want you to open the home learning page for White Rose Maths and complete Lesson 2 of Week 1 all about ratio. Please watch the video first until it asks you to pause it and complete Q1 and Q2. Next, continue the video which will allow you to complete the rest of the task successfully. You don’t need to print it out; you can just answer each question in your maths book. Once you’ve completed the work on the task sheet, open the answer sheet online and check your answers.

Year 5 – Tuesday 30th March
Good Morning Year 5
I hope you are well this Tuesday morning, and that you have woken up ready and raring to go on today’s jobs.
First of all, a massive thank you for all your hard work. We are incredibly proud of you and the resilience you have shown. Us teachers are slowing adjusting to this new way of working, but missing seeing you all everyday. We can’t wait to be back with each other and all of you wonderful year 5s.
Yesterday we mentioned that Numbots may be an extra resource that may be helpful. We suggested that you could skip ahead some levels. Unfortunately this is not as option for children, but as we were logged in as teachers we could do this – apologies for this confusion. If you want to work through levels then feel free, but if you would rather not use this resource and find others that you prefer then please feel free to.
Thank you to those children who let us know their fractions scores from the assessments yesterday. If you haven’t got around to answering them yet or not sent in your scores, please do send an email to year5@stmarksce.org.uk and let us know how you got on or ask for the answers.
Thanks to those children who sent in work to the Year 5 email, we love seeing it.
Have a fantastic day and stay wonderful.
Year 5 Team

Daily Activities
Today your jobs are going to be Maths, English and science. But as always, available to you is:
- TTRockstars – Miss T will be online again at 3pm for another chance to challenge you all.
- Numbots – We apologise for the confusion with this, please see above for more information.
- Spelling Shed – Practise your spelling words for this week through games.
- Reading – Read for at least 20 mins and continue to write in your Reading Log.
- Keywords – Learn these everyday, by look, say, cover, write and check.
- RE – Yesterday we uploaded a list of RE activities for you to complete if you wanted to over this week
Maths
Today we are going to be starting a new unit in Maths, Decimals and Percentages.
We are going to be using something slightly different for maths this week. White Rose (the scheme we follow in Maths) has created some worksheets and videos. for this unit of maths. We have looked through it and think that it will be really helpful. The videos talk you through bits of the worksheet and then gives you time to work out parts of it.
We cannot download the videos from the website, but you will find it by clicking here.
When you do, you will, need to click onto the week 1 section of the web page (picture below)
Then you will find the video for Lesson 1 (shown below)
We have attached the worksheet for you, but you can also find it on the website. You can also find the answers there too, but we can also email them to you if you prefer or can’t find them.
Extra Challenges
We have attached some challenges to do with decimals for you to complete after you finish the first sheet. As with normal challenges, you do not have to complete them but we would love for you to have a go at them. Remember to email in for the answers if you need them. They may not be the most difficult questions, but instead these challenges are to consolidate your understanding and to show it in different ways.
English
Today you are going to be writing the build up of your story, that follows on from your beginning yesterday. You will need your plan you made on Friday yesterday nearby to remind you of what happens in your story.
They key thing for this part of the story will be to tell the audience how your characters got the money.
We have done a lot of practise describing so remember to include:
- Relative clauses
- Parenthesis
- Different sentence types (e.g. the more the more, 3ed sentences and 2 pair sentences)
- Semi-colons to join two clauses
- Semi-colons for a descriptive list
The PowerPoint gives you an example build up that Mrs Poole has written for you to show what a good one looks like.
Science
Today we are going to be thinking about surface area. There is some information and a video to watch and then you are going to complete an experiment.
In the PowerPoint, it suggests plastercine, blu tak or foil to make different shapes. But if you do not have any of these things, then you can find anything waterproof that is different shapes, maybe a pencil, or a ball, whatever you have.
The End!
Year 4 – Tuesday 31st March
Good Morning Year 4!
We hope that you are well on this Tuesday morning. Thank you so much for sending us your Mythical Creatures. Your creativity has been amazing and we have really enjoyed seeing such a wide variety. If you haven’t had a chance to share your creature with us, please do as we love hearing from you.
Today you will have the opportunity to include your mythical creature in your writing. You also have a very special treat as Miss Stonehouse has made you a very special Year 4 French video. It goes live at 8am today and you will need to use the normal video password to watch it.
Have a lovely day and keep in touch,
Mrs Tunnicliffe, Miss Hardy, Mrs Happy and Miss Goddard

We hope that you enjoyed your first White Rose maths lesson yesterday. Today’s lesson will help you to link your understanding of tenths as decimals. Remember every fraction can be written as an equivalent decimal!

English – Using Rhyme to Describe
I am sure many of you know the story of the Gruffalo very but have a listen to the book again and focus on the descriptions the mouse gives of the Gruffalo. How does he describe him? What do you notice about rhyming?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8sUPpPc8Ws
Once you have listened to the story, we want you to re-write the part of the book where the Gruffalo is being described. The description will have to fit your Mythical Creature. As well as that, your challenge is to ensure that your description follows the same rhyming pattern.
Open the document to see the original description and then an example using ‘The Giant Prickalo’ before you have a go at your own.
Topic – Creating a New Front Cover
As you are re-writing ‘The Gruffalo’, you will also need to recreate the front cover so that it has a new title and also features a picture of your Mythical Creature! Watch the Youtube video below where you will be shown how you can draw this by hand and also talked through some other ways to recreate your book front cover.
Remember – it’s really helpful if your Mythical Creature ends in the ‘o’ sound as it will make your story rhyme. For example – Gruffalo, Prickalo, Unitigo, Rabbito etc.
Below are some example front covers which have been created in different ways to inspire your work:
