End of Year 6 Events
As we approach the end of the year, and the end of primary school for our wonderful Year 6 children, we are saddened that we cannot finish the year with our usual leavers’ events. However, we are still keen to arrange some different events despite the current Covid-19 situation.
We understand that some children and families are still shielding and so we have tried to plan a range of events across the final couple of weeks to give all children the opportunity to access at least one of these.
The official last day for Year 6 children has now been moved forwards to Friday 17th July. This is because some Basingstoke secondary schools are/may be planning on using the following week for transition mornings/afternoons. Details of these will be shared soon by secondary schools. Brighton Hill is definitely doing these transition days. If your child is currently in school as part of our wider opening provision, we would ask that they do not return the following week (Mon 20th-23rd) to ensure that bubbles of children are not mixed. However, if this presents a problem because of key-worker status, please do let us know.
Class picnic
To give them a chance to say goodbye in person, Year 6 children are invited to a picnic on the school field with their class teacher and some of their class friends. These will take place at 3:15pm – 4:30pm on either Monday 6th July, Tuesday 7th July or Wednesday 8th July. In order to make sure we all stay safe, these will need to be in smaller groups of around 10 children which will be chosen by the class teacher. Parents/guardians will be required to use the one-way system to drop off their child to the picnic, entering through the gate near KS1 and leaving through the gate by Year 6. Children will be informed by the end of this week which day they are invited to.
Talent show on Zoom
On Monday 13th July at 4pm, we will hold a Year 6 talent show on Zoom! All Year 6 children and parents will be invited to watch but must remain ‘muted’ during performances until one of the Year 6 teachers unmutes for you to clap and cheer! If your child would like to enter the talent show, please see the following requirements:
- Email year6@stmarksce.org.uk with the subject ‘Talent show entry’ and provide details on what your child will be doing for it e.g. singing, dancing, magic etc. by Friday 3rd
- Performances can be done ‘live’ – you will just need to make sure your audio and video settings are working beforehand
- Performances can be pre-recorded and emailed to us – we will then be able to share our screens to show these during the Zoom call
- You will need to provide any music required
- One of the Year 6 teachers will send out an email to children entering to let them know which ‘act’ number they will be.
Class Quiz/Bingo on Zoom
On Wednesday 15th July at 4pm, we will have a class quiz and game of Bingo on Zoom. This will be the final time that we will ‘meet’ together as individual classes. All you will need is some paper and a pen/pencil. We would love it if the children could contribute to the class quiz by providing us with one question beforehand. If your child would like to do this, please email us at year6@stmarksce.org.uk with the subject ‘Class quiz’ and provide your child’s name, the quiz question and the answer by Friday 3rd July.
Final Goodbye on Zoom
On Friday 17th July at 2pm, Year 6 children, parents and some of the St Mark’s staff will have the opportunity to ‘meet’ on Zoom for a final goodbye. Within this Zoom meet, a few different videos will be played to the children so please expect this to last for at least an hour. The only video we are sharing details about now involve the Year 6 children saying a goodbye message. If your child would like to be part of a goodbye video, which will be played to all children on this Zoom meet, please look at the following requirements:
- Only the year 6 child to be filmed saying a goodbye message/sharing a happy memory
- Please film landscape so these can be easily put together in a video
- No longer than 20 seconds
- Email these to year6@stmarksce.org.uk with the subject ‘Goodbye video message’ by Friday 3rd
Collection of Windmill Hill DVDs and Yearbooks
The deadline for ordering a Yearbook was today. If you would still like to order one, please email year6@stmarksce.org.uk with the subject ‘Yearbook’ to request your number of copies. By the end of this week, we will confirm the final cost to you and then payment will be set up online using your child’s Scopay account.
To order a Windmill Hill DVD, please pay £5 on your Scopay account by Friday 3rd July. Payment is available online now.
Both of these items will be available for collection in the front foyer of school on Monday 20th July and Tuesday 21st July between 4pm and 5pm. Please adhere to the social distancing guidelines on arrival.
Hoodies – A message from Mrs Cater, FOSM volunteer and Y6 parent
“I’m Emma, mum of Will Cater in 6C. I’ve been looking into how we can purchase leavers hoodies for the children. The hoodies will be bought via a website called LeaversHoodies.com. The way it works is that I work with the company to design a hoody for the children, which will include printing on the front (School name and year), and larger printing on the back to include the names of the year 6 children. This is then saved onto the company website and I will be given login details, which will be distributed to you via school email. You then go onto the website and place your order – including your choice of colour, size and nickname (if desired). Normally hoodies are then delivered to school, however due to the current situation I the company will provide delivery to your home. If this changes, I will take delivery and arrange a way for them to be collected. Currently orders are taking 3-4 weeks to process. The hoodies will be about £20 (depending on number of purchases). You don’t pay anything until you order it online directly. I need parental permission to use your child’s name within the printing on the back of the hoody. Complete the google form to give permission. The website shop will remain open for 2 weeks from the date you are sent the email with the log in details. Even if you don’t want to buy a hoody, you can still give permission for your child’s name to appear on it.”

We really hope that having these plans in place will provide both parents and children with some comfort that the opportunity to say goodbye before summer will happen. Please be assured that all Year 6 children will be invited back for their official Leavers’ service and party once restrictions on larger gatherings have been lifted.
All invitations with links to each of the Zoom meets will be emailed out in advanced as well as put on the daily sections on Google Classroom. If you have any questions regarding any of these events, please do email us at year6@stmarksce.org.uk
Many thanks, The Year 6 team
