Year R – Thursday 23rd April

Good Morning Parrots, Puffins and Penguins!

Hello Everyone

Happy Thursday! Did you enjoy making and creating your potions and wands yesterday? I wonder what interesting (and revolting) ingredients you added to your cauldron?

We have some really Wild Things for you to do today!  Mrs Baird’s story at the bottom of the page is your starting point for your wild adventure.

Have a fantastic day and remember, “Don’t forget to let love in!”

Year R Team

This week we go up, up and away to explore… going on an adventure!

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.

You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.

We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Independence

The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.

However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.

First go to the Video Resources section to watch today’s story read by Mrs Baird.

Did Max really go on an adventure to where the wild things lived? Why do you think that?
If you could have a dream and go on any adventure, where would you go? What would you see? Who would you meet? What would you do?
Using the template below, answer the questions for your grown up to write down for you (or if you’re looking for a challenge write the answers yourself.)

Adults at home: This template is familiar to the children and we use it in our Book Club sessions. See if they can show you the actions for Who? Where? and What?

Maths –

Watch Numberblock ‘Block Star’  click here to view

Wow! 12 did really well on his mission didn’t he? Each time he reached an obstacle in his race to the battery, he had to share himself out in different ways.
Can you remember the different ways he did this?
Collect 12 objects and practise sharing them out into 2, 3, 4 and 6 groups just as Numberblock 12 did. Make sure each group has the same number!
Use the slides below to help you.

See if you can say what you’ve made each time e.g. 3 lots of 4 makes 12.

Design your own Wild Thing!

Can you design your own Wild thing? Look closely at some of the pictures to see what kind of features they have. Think about what your wild thing will have:
• Horns?
• A tail?
• A beak?
• A piggy nose?
Will it be:
• Stripy?
• Hairy?
Once you have drawn it, can you colour it in? Or paint it? Or use collage materials to decorate it?
We look forward to seeing your amazing creations!
