Year 4 Wednesday 22nd April

Good Morning Year 4!

Hope you are all well and enjoying the sunny weather. We all loved seeing you and hearing from you on our Zoom meetings yesterday. We enjoyed meeting some of your pets and finding out the cool things you have been doing since we last saw you. We were glad it worked well and can see ways of improving it next time, especially ending it properly in 4SH! Let us know if you have any good ideas for things we could try next time; remember they need to be very visual and that it only works well if one or two people are speaking at a time. The typing on chat doesn’t work very well as it goes across peoples faces, so we don’t think we should use that next time. We will arrange another class Zoom in a few weeks!

We have also enjoyed looking at your new inventions particularly, the ones for helping teachers! The ones to wake people up will be very useful when we have to get used to getting up early to go to school. We have included a few pictures of the inventions you have created below. Today we are going to be trying to decide which real inventions have made the most difference to the world.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year4@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

English – What is the greatest invention of all time?

What is the greatest invention of all time – is it the light bulb? Reading glasses? Television or even the oven?

The world is ever-changing so it is difficult to think about what the world was once like. People have been inventing things for tens of thousands of years and improving upon those inventions as time has gone on. Have a listen to Miss Goddard in the YouTube video below where she will talk about an invention which is important to her and explain your task today.

Lots of people have their own opinion about what the most important inventions are. Here are some websites which may help you to choose what you feel is the greatest invention of all time:

Website which lists many different inventions

Website which lists famous inventors and what they invented

Website with a 5-minute video about the top 10 inventions

Website showing 10 inventions which changed the world

Do you agree with these? We would like you to write about what you feel is an important invention – this could be something which is important in your life or even something which is important to humankind. Use the framework below as an idea to structure your piece of writing. You may even want to illustrate your work with a picture below.

Topic – Inventions and Inventors Quiz!

Here is a multiple choice quiz about famous inventions and inventors. Although you might not know all the answers, you might be able to work them out just using clues in inventors names or just using your common sense!

The questions and answers are below so you can check your work.
