Year 5 – Tuesday 21st April

Good Morning Year 5!

blank

We hope you slept well and that you have woken up with a smile. The sunshine yesterday was lovely, we hoped that you managed to get some fresh air and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it continues to shine and cheer up our days.

Just a reminder that Miss Goddard has set up a page with some Maths challenges for you to have a go at if you would like to. Click here to go to the web page. There will be a new challenge everyday, Monday to Friday, with three levels of challenge so that children in Key Stage 1 and 2 can access these, so please look carefully at which challenge suits you best. These Mathematical challenges will require thinking, problem solving and investigative skills. Please remember that these are additional tasks which are not necessarily related to what we are learning in our year group so please ensure that you have completed our task first so that it is done.

At the bottom of this post is the spelling list for this week. I am sorry this didn’t come out to you yesterday, but I must have still had my Easter holiday brain on. They are also on Spelling Shed for you to practise there as well.

Thank you for sending pictures of your visual dictionaries – we LOVED looking at them. They were all beautiful, but unfortunately we couldn’t show them all, but loved looking at all of them.

Keep up all your hard work!

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Daily Activities

Today your jobs are Maths and English. We have also included a Science job as well, thinking about famous Naturalists and their achievements.

  • TTRockstars
  • Numbots – Remember to use your TT Rockstars logon and to work through the easier levels to get to the more trickier ones.
  • Spelling Shed – Email in to ask for your login and then practise your spellings for the week.
  • Reading –  Read for at least 20 mins and write it in your reading log.
  • Spellings – Look, say, cover, write and check.

Maths

Today we are going to be completing Week 2 – Lesson 1 Rounding Decimals on the website. Click here to find the website. Remember that we are not yet on Summer Term. You can find the worksheet and some challenges below. Email in for the answers to the challenges.

English

We are going to continue to think about the poetry book ‘The Lost Words’. You are then going to be creative and make some blackout poetry. We have included the page of a book for you to use if you can print it off and draw on. Please send us your finished results, we would really love to see them.

Science

Our science for the new term is all about living things, plants and animals. So to start it off, we are going to think about some important people who study the natural world – called naturalists. Follow through the PowerPoint and watch the videos.

The End!
