Year 5 – Monday 20th April

Good Morning Year 5

Welcome to the Summer Term!! We hope you all had a fantastic Easter Break and were able to relax and have a break – with a bit of chocolate too. Although we can’t be all together,  we are thinking about you and missing you and hoping that we all get to head back to school as soon as we can. The year 5 teachers have been enjoying the sunshine over the last two weeks, making the most of the time outside.

With a new half term, brings a new topic. Our new topic is the Cracking Caribbean. We will be thinking about the islands of the Caribbean, before looking at one of the islands in particular. We will be thinking about the physical features, human features, the weather and then how this island compares to the UK.

Similar to before the Easter holidays, we will be posting your jobs for the day on here for you to work through at your own pace. Just a reminder that these can be done whenever you can. Try your best to complete them in, but don ‘t worry if you are struggling, leave it and come back to it when you can. Please keep in touch by emailing year5@stmarksce.org.uk with your pictures, questions and requests – we love to hear from you.

For those of you who are completing their Maths with ease, and for those who would like further challenge, Miss Goddard is starting a ‘Daily Maths Challenge’ page on the school website where she will upload a new set of challenges everyday. If you complete today’s work and would like to access it, please click here

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Today your two jobs are Maths and English. There is also the first topic lesson to have a go at as well. But – as always – below are the things you can continue to do when you have time:

English

For the next two weeks, we are going to be thinking about Poetry. We are going to be looking at the book ‘The Lost Words’ to help us with the poetry. Work through the Powerpoint and create your visual dictionary.

Topic

Today is the start of our new topic – Cracking Caribbean. Today we are going to think about the different aspects of the Caribbean by looking at different pictures of it and creating a mind map of ideas.
