Year 4 Monday 20th April

Good Morning Year 4

We hope that you had a wonderful Easter break and managed to enjoy some time outside. It has been lovely to see the bluebells come out and the blossom on the trees. What a transformation in the weather from before the Easter holidays.

We have some exciting topics for you over the next few weeks, beginning with ‘Inventions and Inventors’, which was one of the topics you voted for in our online survey. We hope that you enjoy the activities and are able to use your creativity.

In terms of our daily Home Learning tasks, we will continue with the ongoing activities such as RockStars and Spellings; if you can do them everyday that is great but please don’t worry if you can’t – choose one or two a day as an idea. We will continue to set Maths, English and a Topic work each day. Prioritise the Maths and English first if you are finding it tricky to fit everything in. Although some activities may require adult support, we are hopeful that most of the Home Learning can be done independently, especially if the children use the Youtubes videos to help them. Do the best you can and make Home Learning work for you and your home situation. We are here to help and support you so please feel free to email.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year4@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Ongoing Daily Activities

  • TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games.
  • Numbots – Play  for 15 mins.
  • Spelling Shed – Play 3 different spelling groups.
  • Reading –  Read for at least 20 mins.

Maths – Dividing a 2-digit Number by 10

Week 2 – Lesson 1 – Dividing a 2-digit number by 10.

We are continuing with the Maths from White Rose. Please ensure you watch lesson 1 from ‘Week 2’ and NOT ‘Summer Term Week 1’.

You should see the picture below when you open up the web link to the correct place.

Once you have watched the video, then complete the worksheet and then use the answer sheet to mark your work. If you get any questions wrong, see if you can correct them or ask an adult for help.

For children who are completing their Maths with ease, and who would like further challenge, Miss Goddard is starting a ‘Daily Maths Challenge’ page on the school website where she will upload a new set of challenges everyday. If you complete today’s work and would like to access it, please click here

English – Designing a Machine

Please watch our Youtube video below where Miss Goddard will explain everything about today’s English task.

We would like you to choose one of the following machines to design:

  • A machine which helps and pleases teachers
  • A machine which takes dogs on walks
  • A machine which helps to get sleepy children out of bed in the morning

Machines can be rather technical so you may want to have a look at our visual word bank for some ideas. Have a think about the features which the machine would need to have to do its job well. Once you have some ideas, then draw your machine and then label it using detail and technical language which explains how it works. The teachers have created some examples to show you – see below!

Topic – Order the Inventions!

Did you know that people have been inventing things for hundreds of thousands of years? Some things which we use in every day life were in fact invented as far back as periods such as the Egyptians! It’s fascinating to find out when inventions were invented so your challenge today is to open the document and see if you can place the inventions in the correct order of when they were invented.

If you would like an extra challenge, you can guess the date you think they were invented – some are very surprising!
