Year R – Thursday 2nd April

Good Morning Penguins, Puffins and Parrots!

We hope you are all OK and have been enjoying all the learning we have been posting online for you this week. It is wonderful to see so many photos of you all working hard and having fun on Tapestry!

Today our learning is based around the story, ‘How Many Legs?’

Make sure you watch Mrs Baird reading the story before you start any of today’s learning. (At the videos section at the bottom of this page)

Each day at School we have lots of fun doing Dough Disco, working on strengthening our finger muscles and getting them ready for writing. We thought that you might like to impress your grown ups with your Dough Disco moves!

You will find the Dough Disco moves in the ‘Ongoing Daily Activities’ section of each post. All your need is some playdough and your favourite music. Have fun!

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.

You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.

We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Independence

The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.

However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.

English

Oh no, the birthday party list from the story has got lost and now no one knows who’s arrived!

Can you help by writing a list of guests? Remember that when we write a list we start on a new line each time.

If you fancy a challenge, can you describe each party guest e.g. enormous hippo, bouncy kangaroo, cheeky chimpanzee?

Remember to use your phonics to sound out each word. You can use your ‘Fred Fingers’ to make sure you have a beginning, middle and end sounds.

No cheating and copying the names out of the book or from your grown up please!

You can use this sound mat to help you: Click here for sound mat .

Maths

Today’s activity is to investigate how many legs there would be if you add 2 or 3 different animals together. (You can use other figures, dinosaurs etc if you don’t have animals at home.) Remember to watch the story video again if you need a little reminder, Mrs Baird explains our investigation at the end of the video.

Can you represent the numbers of legs using counting objects (counters, bricks, pieces of pasta, beads, buttons) in a part part whole and practise saying what you found? E.g. “ 4 legs and 2 legs makes 6 legs.”

There are some downloadable part-part-whole models for in the Year R section of the Educating Home page of our school website (link below) or you could make your own using plates.

If you are adding 3 animals together, ask your grown up to draw a part part part whole for you on a piece of paper like this:

        Happy Investigating Superstars!

Easter Bunny Egg and Spoon Race!

The Easter Bunny loves to have egg and spoon races with his friends. Why don’t you challenge your grown up to an egg and spoon race in the garden?  (you don’t have to use an egg! A small ball, potato, of anything round will do!

I wonder who will win? Perhaps you could make it into an obstacle course? Time yourselves doing the course to see who will complete it in the fastest time.
