Year 3 – Thursday 2nd April

Good Morning Year 3

Thank you again for sharing all your fabulous work with us yesterday. Here are some of the super road safety posters you made linked to ‘The Hodgeheg’.

EXCITING NEWS:
Yesterday, hopefully your grown up’s received an email about a class video chat. We are very excited about this as we are missing you all. These have been set up for Friday – Times and details have been emailed. If you haven’t received these please email us at year3@stmarksce.org.uk and we will get them out to you. We would love to see as many of you as we possibly can in these meetings.  If we have time we will try and do a true or false quiz based on our ‘What’s inside’, so it might be an idea to look over your knowledge organiser again before. For this you will need a piece of paper with true written on one side and false written on the other – Please make sure you use a pen to write it on so we can see it clearly.

Copy of knowledege organiser can be found here.

Note for parents:
* Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do them independently.
* We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
* The work we have set should take about 2 hours maximum spread throughout the day.

Ongoing Daily Activities

Maths

Today, we are continuing our work on Fractions using the White Rose Maths Lessons. This will involve watching the video clip and completing the worksheet.  There is an answer sheet to check your work.

Please complete Week 1, Lesson 4 – Counting in Tenths – This lesson builds on your knowledge of tenths from yesterday.  You will count in tenths using ten frames and numberlines and move onto looking at tenths which are greater than the whole.

You can find the video and resources for today’s lesson here https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/  Don’t forget to click on week 1, lesson 4 – counting in tenths – Watch the clip and follow the instructions.

Things to remember

  • Tenths means a whole has been split into ten equal parts.
  • Any fraction is bigger than the whole (1) if the numerator (the top number) is greater than the denominator (the bottom number) e.g. 11/10
  • For question 10 you will need to remember the numerator is the number at the top (and this will be an odd number greater than 10) and the denominator is the number at the bottom (and this will be 10)

Resources you will need:

We understand that some children are unable to print the worksheets but please don’t worry. Try and copy out and answer as many questions as you can into your homework book or another book.

RE

Parents:  As we get closer to Easter, in school we would normally be learning about the Christian view of Easter. These activities aim to help you and your child to explore the concept of sacrifice. At the moment, this should be a good starting point for conversation as both you and your child are giving up lots of the normal activities in everyday life, time with friends, sporting activities etc. It would be good to spend some time discussing why we are doing this. Is it just for ourselves or others too?  How does it relate to what Christians believe that Jesus did?

Resources you will need:

English

So today we are going to be finishing our book ‘The Hodgeheg’. You can read this your self or listen to Mrs Alsey reading it below. Then you are going to complete a book review.
