Year R – Wednesday 1st April

Good Morning Parrots, Puffins and Penguins!

Wow we loved seeing all the colourful rainbows you made yesterday and hope they are now beautifully displayed in your windows for everyone to see!  Maybe today if you could go for a walk you could go on a rainbow hunt?  I think we will do the same! I wonder if we will see yours?!

Today we are  listening to the story ‘Duck in a Truck’, helping Teddy count his Easter eggs (yum yum) and building the Easter bunny a home to sleep in!

It has come to our attention, that some of you may have missed that there was another Boris Worship on Friday. It wasn’t posted on the Year R page as it was an activity that was open to the whole school. If you did happen to miss Worship you can find it  here. There are some of the children’s favourite songs featured – ‘Build it High’ as well as another chance to practise the school song (scroll to the bottom). Enjoy!

Each Friday there will be a new Home Worship – these will be in the ”Educating Home’ page under ‘Section 10 – Worship’. Will will make reference to them in our Friday posts for you.

Have a good day, be kind to one another. :)

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.

You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.

We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Independence

The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.

However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.

Talk to your grown up about what happened in the story then answer the following questions:

  • What happened at the beginning?
  • What happened next?
  • What happened at the end?
  • If there was another page in the book what do you think would have happened in the story? What would the sheep, goat and frog done next? What would the duck have done next?
  • What characters showed out learning behaviour of ‘resilience’ in the story?  Why?
  • Which animal drove the jeep? What can you spot about those two words – jeep / sheep?
  • Can you name any other words from the story that rhymed?

Activity 3 –

Can you use the sound buttons to read these words from the story?   * Remember a line under two letters shows it has ‘2 letters and 1 sound’.*

Activity 1 –

My teddy bear is very excited that it is almost Easter! He is going on an Easter egg hunt today but is getting confused over how many eggs he needs to collect.  Can you play the game  ‘ Teddy numbers’? You can find this by clicking here – Please select ‘up to 10’ as this is our current number focus.

Activity 2 –

Our next activity is to create the numbers 5 to 10 using part part wholes.

There are some downloadable part-part-whole models for in the Year R section of the Educating Home page of our website which you can download by clicking here (click on 11 – ‘Our Resources’ which will take you to the correct section. Alternatively you could set up your own part-part wholes by using plates.

Click on the ‘part – part whole’ for more information from the Numberblocks. :

Construction Activity

It isn’t going to be long until the Easter bunny comes to visit!

Can you build him a home in your garden (or inside if its chilly) just in case he has time for a snooze after delivering all those Easter eggs?

You could use junk modelling, bricks, lego, or even natural materials from your garden (leaves, twigs, sticks).

How big do you think the bunny’s new home needs to be?

How will you join the materials?

I wonder if the Easter bunny would like you to decorate it too?

We would love to see any photos of your wonderful creations on Tapestry.  :)
