You can access our general resources to support your child at home here: Y1 General Resources

Please do not feel like you have to complete all of the activities provided in one day. We have given a variety so that there are options for you to choose what works best for you at home.

  • Painting them
  • Put them into a sentence

English

We are continuing to learn about ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’ this week today. If you need a reminder of the story you can read the book again or watch Miss Jamieson read it in the video attached to this post. Practise retelling the story to someone at home. You could use your S-plan if you made one or look at ours here: S-Plan Mrs Armitage on Wheels

Have a go at writing a retell of the story. You can use the S-Plan to remember what happened. If you would like to, you can use this storyboard as a template to write your story, or you can write on other lined paper. Remember to use little lines to keep your handwriting small! You can find both options here:

English Story Board – Tuesday 24th March

English Lined Paper – Tuesday 24th March

You can also use the resources in the ‘helpful reminders’ section to help you if you would like.

When you are finished, check that your writing has all the things on this pencil:If you would like us to read your story, you can email us at: year1@stmarksce.org.uk

Maths

Today we will be learning how to represent our numbers to 50 using tens and ones.

If you have some lego, can you build yourself some sticks of ten bricks? If not, you could create bundles of ten using straws or cotton buds or use other objects to represent groups of 10. After you have collected a few groups of ten, practise counting in your 10’s to see how many you have. You could write this number down. Think about how many tens are in this number. If you have a few objects left that don’t quite make a group of 10, see if you can count in tens for the groups of ten and then count the extra objects in ones. Here is an example:

If you want an extra challenge – try putting the numbers into a tens and ones grid like this!

Think of a number to 50 and make that number using your tens sticks and single bricks/objects. Think about how many tens and ones you have. Can you say this sentence about your objects: ____is represented by ____tens and ____ones.

For example: 24 is represented by 2 tens and 4 ones.

Try making some other numbers and saying the sentence. You could complete this sheet: Maths – Tues 24th March

Topic

Art: Today we are going to be having a go at drawing a form of transport. See if you can have a go at following the steps to draw one of them. Use these slides to help you. If you would like to use the instructions, you can choose from a car, a tractor, an aeroplane, a hot air balloon or a train. If not, you could challenge yourself to draw another form of transport  – why not have a go at drawing a boat?

When you’ve finished your drawing, you could use colouring pencils or felt tips to colour it in. Make sure to stay in the lines! You could challenge yourself to think about which colours go well together on the colour wheel. Hint: think about opposite colours!
