Year 6 – Monday 23rd March
Good Morning Amazing Year 6 Children!
What glorious weather we had this weekend – we hope you managed to safely and sensibly get outside in the fresh air to enjoy it.
For those of you that were not in on Friday, we have attached the youtube video of Mr Applegate who wanted to send a little message. We hope it brings you some reassurance and positivity. You can find it at the bottom of the page in the Video Resources section. You will need the password that was given to all parents to be able to access this.
Thank you to those children who have emailed us with photos of their work or just to say hello. We are going to find this whole ‘working from home’ situation as strange as you are, but one thing that will really brighten our day is to know you’re getting on well with your learning, and that you’re happy and healthy.
This week, Mrs Silv is managing your home learning and is therefore your main contact if you’re struggling with anything… so don’t be shy – drop her an email and say hi!
Start your day with ‘P.E WITH JOE’ (Joe Wicks, The Body Coach). He will be streaming live workouts for children at 9am every day this week on his youtube channel -https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/featured
Have a super day Year 6.
Mrs Silvester, Miss Pettitt & Mrs Chapman

Helpful Reminders
Don’t forget you can email us on year6@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Ongoing Daily Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games. Mrs Silv will be online at 11am today! After such a beautiful sunny weekend, her maths brain is well-rested and is sure to be on fire with her times tables. Are you ready for a competition?! Meet in the ‘Arena’ (make sure you select ‘Maths class 6’ at the top) at 11am. Mrs Silv’s TT Rockstar name is Harmony Powers.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets – your new weekly sheet will be uploaded each Monday. Download here: Week 5 spelling sheet or Week 5 spelling sheet less tricky
Daily physical activity of some sort
Maths
We are continuing our learning of reading scales today – this time in the context of weight and mass. This will involve knowing key conversions between grams, kilograms and tonnes.
Please see attached powerpoint with some audio help again from Mrs Silvester (you may require Quicktime for this to play). Please also see below a choice of two levels of work – both of which have 2 sheets with Part 1, 2 and 3. We have also attached the answers for you to check AFTER you have completed your work.
Documents to download:

Less tricky part 1 and 2 answers
Less tricky part 3 and 4 answers
Main part 1 and 2 answers – updated with correct answers!
English
We’re continuing with our Maya adventure stories today – this time with a focus on direct speech! Please see the attached powerpoint to help you.
History
As we have learnt so far, the Maya were a well-developed and sophisticated civilisation. In order to track time, they used three calendars. Your task this afternoon is to use the internet to find out about either the Tzolk’in or Haab calendar and why it was so significant for the Maya. Write an explanation about it and try to draw a diagram, or even create a model, to go with it! Please use the sheet attached below if you wish to, or present it on a page in your ‘Home Book’. We look forward to seeing your work.
