Year 5 – Friday 20th March

Good Morning Year 5

We hope you are well, working hard and being helpful around the house. Thank you for all your emails so far, it has been lovely to talk to some of you and your parents and hear about how you are managing yourself with schedules and how you are choosing to complete all of your jobs. If you haven’t yet emailed, we would love to hear from you at year5@stmarksce.org.uk

We are extremely proud of how you have overcome this new and strange situation and how resilient you are being with your work by emailing in and asking for help, that is exactly what we are here for.

We have had some emails asking for answers for Maths and Grammar Hammer jobs, Miss Thomas has made some answer sheets for those and is happy to send them across to you if you send her an email.

You can find a worship here , too.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We will be respond between the hours of 9 and 4.30, and will respond as soon as we can.

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here to print off.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Daily Activities

As we have previously been doing, you will have specific subjects jobs to do. However, we will be slightly reducing the amount of jobs we set to 3. This gives you more time to help out at home, get some fresh air and do some of the other important daily jobs, which are listed below.

  • TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games. – At 3pm today (Friday) I will be online in the Arena section of Rockstars to challenge as many of you as can log in at that time. My name on Rockstars ‘Missy Flowers’ – Miss T
  • Reading –  Read for at least 20 mins.
  • Spellings – Practise these everyday, maybe ask someone to test you? (new list to be sent on Monday)

Maths

Today in Maths you will be continuing to subtract fractions, but this time they will all be with 2 mixed numbers. There were a few of these to do yesterday, but this gives you more time to practise and consolidate this skill. The same as yesterday, there is an optional challenge on the bottom, so don’t feel like you have to do it but please try if you feel comfortable. There were a few emails yesterday regarding the video being of help, so Miss T has done another one today to help you get started. Find the link in the video section below, using the same password as yesterday. But as always, please do email if you need any help.

English

We have combined Book Club with English from now on, so you will need to start by watching the video of Mrs Poole reading Chapter 18 of Millions, link in videos section below, same password. Then we are going to continue to think about the character of Glass Eye, so start by answering the questions and then writing a diary entry as if you were him. We only expect you to be writing for about 15-20 minutes.

Topic – Europe

Today you will be continuing to look at the capital city Vienna, but today it is about modern day Vienna. The PowerPoint below gives you some key facts, and then goes into detail about the key identity features for this city. Your end job is to write a short story about a character visiting this city for the first time, making sure you include some of the main features of the city (more information on the slides)
