Year 1 – 18th March 2020

Dear Parents,

We hope you are doing well. Here is an outline of our daily routine for those of you who would like it. You do not have to follow this but you may find it helps your child structure their learning throughout the day.

Please do not feel like you have to complete all of the activities provided in one day. We have given a variety of options for you to choose what works best for you at home. We understand that you may also be working from home so please do not worry about completing everything. Anything you can do is fantastic!

English: Here is a variety of English activities that your child could do daily:

  • Read for at least 20 minutes a day. This can be their school reading book or a book from home. If you are running out of reading material, a good website to look at for reading scheme books is: www.oxfordowl.co.uk
  • Have stories read to them
  • Practise naming the letters of the alphabet and sing the alphabet song (capital and lower case)
  • Threading/Play dough/Cutting/Colouring/Painting
  • Phonicsplay Obb and Bob (Click: Phase 5 – Revise all Phase 5): https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/PicnicOnPluto.html
  • Practise writing sentences about a story they know. When writing, please remind them to use full stops, capital letters, neat handwriting and finger spaces.

Spelling: Their spellings this week are:

be

his

no

had

friend

school

Your child can practise these in a variety of ways:

  • Saying them aloud (you could put them into a song)
  • Writing them down
  • Painting them
  • Put them into a sentence

Maths: Here is a variety of maths activities that your child could do daily:

Maths Activity 18/3/20: This activity focuses on counting in 5’s. There is a sheet available for children to complete where possible. If not, we encourage you to spend time practising counting in 5’s to 50 or 100 with your child. This could be verbally, part of a song, jumping while counting, writing the numbers down, or counting objects around the house in groups of 5 (hands, gloves or feet are great for this!). Click Here: Count in 5’s 18th March

Topic:

  • DT: Look at the slides linked HERE. Create a hinge flap together. You will need: paper, scissors, colouring pencils and glue or tape. Please don’t feel like you need to go and buy these things if you do not have them.

  • Computing: We are learning about programming. Use the road map image to write directions to navigate from one part of the map to another using left, right, forwards and backwards. The children have used Bee-Bots before so should be familiar with this language.
